Thespies
The Thespies are the theatre department's annual banquet. They are an award show style celebration of everything our troupe has accomplished over the year. In the fall, the troupe votes on a theme and then the Vice President is in charge of organizing decorations, games, and the ceremony itself. It is a costume party as well, and everyone dresses according to the theme. In the past, themes have included circus, Marvel vs. DC, and Black and White films. The Thespies are also the ITS Induction ceremony. If a student meets the requirements for induction by Thespies they will be inducted. Other Thespian point awards are given along with student voted acting and tech awards in Tony Awards style ( i.e. Best Lead Actress and Best Supporting Actor). The Thespies are a huge theatre celebration and we encourage everyone to get involved in some capacity. We feature selections from each of our productions from the past year and also showcase talent of all types. You can become involved in the process either by joining the Thespies Decorating Committee or auditioning to be in the Thespies Opening Number. Check back here and the blog year round for more information on voting, performances, rehearsals, and other ways to be involved.

Only Inducted members are allowed to attend. But this year all can join and Thescon this year will be conducted virtually for the cost of $50. Our troupe does as much as we can to be involved at Thescon whether that be through IE's, Freestyle competition, or Improv. Georgia Thescon will be February 25th, 26th, and 27th, 2020. The Shulers
The Shuler Hensley Awards, or the Georgia High School Musical Theatre Awards, are a statewide awards ceremony celebrating excellence in high school musical theatre. They are named after Georgia Native and Tony Award Winner Shuler Hensley. Douglas County High School has been adjudicated for the Shulers for the past two years and even received Honorable Mention for Choreography in Oklahoma!. Every year the Shulers are televised all over the state and the recipients of Best Actress and Actor are sent to New York City for the Jimmy Nederlander Awards. This years we will not be competing in Shulers because our spring show, Clue is not a musical. We hope to compete in Shulers agin next school year. Along with adjudication, participating shows are allowed to send two members of the ensemble (preferably one male and one female) to be a part of the Shuler Student Ensemble. These students rehearse with Shuler Hensley and perform the opening and closing numbers for the Shulers. Mr. Stephens will select ensemble members. For more info on Artsbridge and the awards check here. Check here and the blog for updates on the Shuler Hensley Awards.
